Materials to Outlast the Standard

We insist on quality materials and practices, including:
- Class B pilings at 13 inches in diameter — a larger diameter than what many contractors use, built for long-term longevity rather than the minimum that will pass inspection
- Pilings driven to refusal, meaning every piling is driven until it hits a hard stop — so any piling on the pier can support a boat or jet ski lift, not just a designated few
- ¾-inch diameter bolts, rather than the ⅝-inch bolts commonly used elsewhere
- 3-inch by 10-inch ledgers (the lumber that holds up the pier decking), instead of the standard 3-inch by 8-inch
- Stainless steel screws throughout
- Copper-topped pilings to seal out moisture and prevent rot
- Marine-grade pressure-treated decking, which holds up longer than copper chrome arsenate or copper azole-treated lumber, plus composite decking options for those who want a lower-maintenance surface
- All decking edges cut and routed for a finished, splinter-free surface

Every project starts with a site visit, usually within a few days of your first call, where we look at your waterfront and listen to what you need it for.
From there, we put together a design and a quote, with permitting handled and priced as a separate step. Once the contract is signed, permitting begins — a straightforward like-for-like replacement can take about a month, while anything involving a design change or falling under Maryland Department of the Environment review can take one to four months. As soon as permits are in hand, we will schedule your crew and get to work.
